Metoclopramide HCl
Indications/Uses
Prevent nausea & vomiting induced by drugs, radiation, anaesthesia or disease. Radiographic examination of the stomach & duodenum, promote rapid emptying of the stomach & as an aid to duodenal intubation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 5-10 mg tds. Childn 5-14 yr 2.5-5 mg tds, 3-5 yr 2 mg bd/tds. Infant <1 yr 1 mg bd. Max dose: 0.5 mg/kg/day.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 30 min before meals.
Contraindications
Patients w/ pheochromocytoma sensitivity; intolerance to metoclopramide. Epileptics; patients receiving drugs which are likely to cause extrapyramidal reactions. GI hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction or perforation.
Special Precautions
Extrapyramidal effects especially dystonic reactions. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Restlessness, drowsiness, fatigue & lassitude.
Drug Interactions
Alcohol, sedatives, hypnotics, narcotics or tranquilizers. Anticholinergics eg, antihistamines, narcotic analgesics, digoxin, paracetamol, tetracycline, levodopa.
